This 1978 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman is a four-door model that was imported into Japan in late 1981. It is powered by a 6.3-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and is finished in black over beige cloth. Equipment includes a limited-slip differential, a self-leveling suspension, a Becker Grand Prix radio, Euro-specification headlights, a chilled drink cabinet in the rear center console, a television set, and a hydraulically operated sunroof, seats, locks, and windows. This current owner purchased the car in 2024, and service that year reportedly included re-coring the radiator and replacing the water pump and thermostat. Previously listed on BaT in April 2025, this 600 Pullman is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment in Japan with the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, a tool kit, and expired Japanese registration.
Mercedes-Benz produced 304 four-door Pullman 600s between 1963 and 1981. This example is finished in black and features chrome bumpers and trim, Euro-specification headlights, and a sunroof.
Steel 15” wheels wear full covers with body-color accents and are mounted with Michelin whitewall tires. The car was factory-equipped with a self-leveling suspension system and four-wheel disc brakes with dual front calipers.
The cabin is upholstered in beige cloth and features wood trim and a Becker Grand Prix radio. A hydraulic system supplies power for the adjustable seats, power windows, and central locks. The selling dealer notes that while the hydraulic windows are functional, they could operate more smoothly. The car is equipped with a Behr air conditioning system but it does not blow cold.
Instrumentation consists of a 6k-rpm tachometer, a 220-km/h speedometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, oil temperature, and ambient temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 48k kilometers (~30k miles), a handful of which were added under current ownership.
The cabin is divided by a partition with a sliding glass window, and one of the rear-facing seats has been replaced by a Sony Trinitron television and a VCR. Additional rear cabin equipment includes a Clarion cassette player, air conditioning controls, footrests, and a chilled drink cabinet in the center console.
The mechanically fuel-injected 6.3-liter M100 V8 made 300 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque when new. The selling dealer states that service in 2024 included re-coring the radiator and replacing the water pump and thermostat.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
Decoding the data plate reveals the following information:
- 040G – Black paint
- 250 – Becker Grand Prix radio w/remote control
- 437 – Automatic rear seatbelts
- 580 – Behr air conditioning
- 592 – Heat-insulating glass
- 992 – Direction to see production order for additional notes
Manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, and spare parts are included in the sale and can be viewed in the gallery.
The Japanese government assigned the car a Japan-specific VIN—11345, pictured above—when it was imported into the country. That number appears on the registration documents, though the Mercedes-Benz chassis number does not. The car was deregistered in 2024 and remains unregistered.
The car’s Mercedes-Benz chassis number is 10001412002542.
