This 1948 Chrysler Town & Country sedan is said to have been sold new in Pennsylvania and spent decades in Texas. The car was refurbished around 2000 and was acquired by the seller in 2021. Powered by a 250.6ci Spitfire inline-six paired with a Fluid Drive semi-automatic transmission, the car is finished in metallic green over maroon leather upholstery with plaid cloth inserts. Equipment includes ash-framed mahogany exterior paneling, a wood and steel roof rack, driving lights, a fender-mounted spotlight, hubcaps, and whitewall tires. The carburetor was rebuilt under current ownership, the radiator was recored, and the battery was replaced. This Windsor-based Town & Country is now offered in California with recent service records and a clean Montana title under the seller’s LLC.
This sedan is one of 1,176 examples produced for the model year. The four-door sedan bodywork sits on a Windsor chassis with a 121.5″ wheelbase and has been repainted in a color described by the seller as Pacific Green Metallic, which is complemented by ash-framed mahogany exterior paneling composing the doors, trunklid, and quarter panels. Exterior equipment includes a chrome eggcrate grille, trim, bumpers, and center front bumper guard as well as a wood and steel roof rack, yellow-lens driving lights, a fender-mounted spotlight, and twin curved-stem side mirrors. The photos in the gallery below were taken in November 2024.
The 15″ steel wheels feature Chrysler-branded chrome hubcaps and bright trim rings, and they are mounted with Firestone whitewall tires measuring 7.00-15. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with coil springs as well as a live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs. Stopping power is handled by front and rear drum brakes.
The cabin features front and rear bench seats that have been retrimmed in maroon leather with plaid cloth inserts. Interior appointments include wood door panels, wood headliner ribs, dual dome lights, sun visors, a Comfort Master heater, a locking glovebox, and front and rear vent windows. The AM radio and the electric clock do not work.
The three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 110-mph speedometer along with gauges for coolant temperature, amperage, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 55k miles, approximately 1k of which were added by the seller. The fuel gauge was repaired in 2022. The factory temperature gauge does not work, and an aftermarket underdash gauge has been added.
The 250.6ci Spitfire inline-six features four main bearings and a single downdraft carburetor for a factory rating of 114 horsepower. The carburetor was rebuilt and the radiator was recored in 2022, and the battery was replaced in 2024.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a column-shifted Fluid Drive semi-automatic transmission.
